Princess Resurrection vol 1 Manga Review
Hiro moves to a new town, following his older sister who recently found a job there as a live-in housekeeper. And is promptly killed in a traffic accident. Luckily (or not) his soon-to-be corpse catches the eye of a passing beauty in gothic attire. Her name is Hime and she is the daughter of the king of all monsters. On a whim she resurrects poor Hiro, who soon discovers that not only will he be living with her (guess who hired his sister?), but that he is now a half-immortal guardian who will rejoin the ranks of the corpses unless he gets regular infusions of her blood. Even with the help of a cute and monstrously strong little girl android, being a hapless loser he makes a rather poor undead soldier, and the princess has a host of enemies, caught as she is in a vicious supernatural struggle for succession. The procession of werewolves, crazed scientists, invisible men, and creatures from black lagoons soon proves more than an immortal zombie loser can handle. Luckily he isn't alone; not as long as the princess has a battle axe or chainsaw handy.

Princess Resurrection vol 1 Manga Review
An addition to the horror-comedy niche, Princess Resurrection suffers from a surplus of ineffective horror and a general listlessness and lack of direction. It is periodically quite funny though, and anything with a chainsaw-wielding woman in it can't be all bad.

posted on 2010-03-18 04:30 EDT
Akinari Matsuno's series follows high school boy with masochistic side
A promotional flyer for Media Factory's MF Bunko J imprint has announced that a television anime adaptation of Akinari Matsuno and QP:flapper's MM! light novel series has been green-lit. The story follows Tarō Sado, a high school boy who discovered a side of himself that is into masochism. Even as he tries to hide this side from his high school crush, he tries to fix it through his school's "2nd Volunteer Club."
Matsuno launched the light novel series in 2007 with illustrations by the artist duo QP:flapper, and Media Factory is shipping the ninth volume on March 25. Issei Hyōju has been drawing a manga adaptation in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine since 2008, and the third compiled book volume of the manga ships on March 23. (A drama CD also ships on March 24.)
According to the Media Factory PR booklet, Matsuno Akinari's novel MM! was announced to get a TV anime adaptation.
Its manga adaptation has been serialized in Monthly Comic Alive since 2008.

Aria the Origination
DVD - Collection Review
There's no dub, but really, who expected one?
With background on Alicia and Akira's formative years and a focus on growing up that sees the central trio of Akari, Aika and Alice roughing out their future paths, this is a far more traditionally substantial season than the franchise's previous two. Occasionally rushed and less sparklingly magical than previously, the series doesn't suffer the change without consequence, but it remains a graceful and gorgeous experience. And if its new maturity inspires a certain sadness, well that's exactly as it should be. In the words of Akari: wonderful.

Aria the Origination
DVD - Collection Review
And of course it is all—every glimpse of the future, window into the past, and glance at the increasingly evanescent present—transcendentally beautiful, crowned with images and sequences so gorgeously constructed that they defy easy encapsulation. There's a retirement ceremony that echoes the royal processions of bygone eras, a simple ferry crossing during which music and motion combine to communicate the economic beauty of Akari's sculling, and of course a nearly endless number of discrete moments when Sato's meticulous sound design, the carefully researched settings, and Choro Club and Takeshi Senoo's wonderful acoustic score make a living thing of Neo-Venezia.

Aria the Origination
DVD - Collection Review
Right Stuf's presentation of the series is every bit a match for its content. Their thinpak box is solidly built and thoroughly bedecked with the series' delectable art. The accompanying booklet is colorful, dense with interviews and cast retrospectives, and just generally a joy to read and look at (even if it has some embarrassing misprints). The decision to place the single Arietta OVA on its own disc seems wasteful until it becomes clear just how packed the other discs are. Every one of the three Origination discs features four to five episodes (episodes 1-13, plus bonus episode 5.5) along with two or three picture dramas—barely animated video mangas with enough bad dialogue to hint at how disastrous the series could have been were it not so carefully written and executed. And to round out the set, there's an entire extra disc of cast and crew interviews, including "SatoJun's 'Venice I'm Sorry!' Returns", a sequel of sorts to Aria the Natural's thoroughly charming travelogue featuring the thoroughly charming Junichi Sato.

MM! ED Single – More-more LOVERS!! [Asou Natsuko]
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O10K3P53
Princess Resurrection vol 1 Manga Review
Only one chapter—a creepy stay in a vampire-infested hospital—succeeds as horror. The rest, for all of their battling monsters, are all but entirely devoid of terror, dread, creeps, chills and willies, and haven't even the sheer gore factor to qualify them. There is plenty of (curiously rendered) blood, and the artwork lends itself fairly well to classical Hollywood horror atmospherics, but the passages given over to suspense are generally wasted. Humor isn't enough of a focus for this to be a laugh-riot, but there are amusing little jokes throughout, nearly all of them dealing with the endless abuse heaped on Hiro. He's run over, stabbed, garroted, chain-sawed, thrown through windows, impaled, dismembered, and left at the bottom of a lake for an entire chapter. It's rather refreshing to see an ostensible male lead placed in a position as protector and yet remain as thoroughly incompetent as Hiro is.
